Les Misérables (2012)

Underwhelming. Although I did shed buckets, this isn't exactly a very cinematic experience overall. The opening was impressive, but it got a bit boring towards the end.

Gf*Bf - 女朋友。男朋友 (2012)

Generally okay. Some nice bits, but the overall feel of the film is that it lacks energy. Am not too familiar with the historical context, but do think the character development needs work.

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Viewing was slightly wrecked by pesky noisy kids in the same theatre. Film was ok. Pacing felt a bit laggy in the middle. Quite liked Paperman, the short that preceded the feature.

Argo (2012)

Not too bad.

Hotel Transylvania (2012)

Got dragged to watch this. This one's mainly for the kids.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Not bad. Caught this in 2D Dolby Atmos. The Atmos was worth it. The audience clapped and cheered when the show began and clapped when it ended. 2012 is turning out to be a good year for great blockbuster movies!

Life of Pi (2012)

Caught this in 3D Dolby Atmos. From a visual POV, this film is worth catching in 3D. Not sure about the difference offered by Atmos, but I ain't exactly a technically sensitive kinda guy.

As for the film - it was ok. Not too bad.

The Last Tycoon - 大上海 (2012)

Okay, so-so only.

Diva - 華麗之後 (2012)

Perhaps watching this on the plane diluted my appreciation. While this film does have its moments, it also felt a bit boring at times. Chapman To gives a standout performance.

Pitch Perfect (2012)

Not a perfect movie, but entertaining for the most part. Performances were fun, especially Rebel Wilson's, who plays Fat Amy (she's a dead ringer for that Vicky character from Little Britain). Rest of the cast don't fare too badly either. Just wished the film had closed on a higher note, i.e. a final song and dance sequence.

Skyfall IMAX (2012)

Appreciate the attempt to make this a game changer. But the film was a bit too long, IMHO.

Ah Boys to Men: Part 1 - 新兵正传 (2012)

Not too bad. Probably set a new bar for domestic commercial films.

Drag Me to Hell (2009)

Bait 3D (2012)

Not the disaster that I thought it would be.

IMHO - this flick pretty much fulfils what it's set out to do. Has some decent thrills and nice characters and performances (although one or two characters were also badly underdeveloped and the performance was wooden compared to the rest).

Overall, watchable, but didn't think it warranted a 3D viewing (the print I watched seems to be of low quality with no English translation for some of the Chinese titles that appear).

And the 3D glasses were pretty uncomfortable.

Call Me Kuchu (2012)

Not an easy film to sit through for those who are uncomfortable with a dose of reality. Otherwise, this documentary does make for a compelling piece of work.

Tai Chi Hero - 太极 2 (2012)

Ending's a bit rushed. But no one's gonna be watching this for a great story or wonderful character development, IMHO. The fight scenes and generic plot's still got adequate entertainment value though.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

Nice. Great acting and a tight script. Story might not be for everyone though, as it is a bit more character driven and not constructed like most commercial fare.

Entertaining. But generic.

To be fair, this is too arty for my liking. Didn't take to the style of how one of the key narrators was narrating either.

Slow at times.  But if this means a good story with great performances, so be it.

Premium Rush (2012)

Suspension of belief required at times. But I enjoyed the adrenaline rush of this one.

English Vinglish (2012)

Story was simple, but it's Sridevi's sensitive and commanding performance that elevates this film.

Dang Anom (1962)

Not my cup of tea. Was educational, though.

Ruby Sparks (2012)

IMHO - one of the most magical and interesting films I've ever watched.

My Dog Dou Dou - 我的狗蚪蚪 (2012)

Boring. At times, excruciating to watch. But the kid's performance wasn't too bad. Neither was the dog's.

The Thieves - 도둑들 (2012)

Strong contender for best film of 2012. Love the characters. Several situations require a suspension of disbelief, but this film is nothing but entertaining and engaging.

ParaNorman (2012)

One of the best animated films I've had the pleasure of watching. Love the art direction and the use of that Donovan song, "Season of the Witch".

Hope Springs (2012)

IMHO - a slow mainstream movie with lots of of substance and relevance. Nice!

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)

Got dragged to watch this. Pretty much delivers what one expects, I guess.

Wolf Children - おおかみこどもの雨と雪 (2012)

Pretty old fashion tale. IMHO, the beginning was a bit dull, but the main story of a single mother bringing up two kids who can turn into wolves was better. Overall, was ok. Not my cup of tea though.

The Expendables 2 (2012)

Somewhat violent but entertaining movie with a neat selling point. IMHO, this is what I wished that movie THE LOSERS could have been.

Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D (2012)

Fluff, but I liked and enjoyed watching it in glorious 3D!

Magic Mike (2012)

Not too sure what to make of this. Perhaps it was a bit too indie for my liking.

Hysteria (2011)

Not too bad. Nice chemistry between the two leads.

Greedy Ghost - 贪心鬼见鬼 (2012)

Marginally better than PCK but both films belong to that cesspool of best forgotten films.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Caught this in IMAX. Not bad and worth the format. Some gripes here and there but this is pretty much not too bad with some nifty action sequences. IMHO - Joseph Gordon-Levitt shines in this one.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

IMHO - not as well paced as the first two Sam Raimi flicks. Also missing some fan fav elements. This film being rebooted so soon after the previous version doesn't help. Overall, some good things - like intelligent dialogue, but probably not as kid-friendly as the last incarnation. Not too far off from Brian Wood's Demo graphic novel in terms of tone. Reminds me a bit of Chronicle too.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)

Story was a bit too simplistic or convenient at times, but the cast, some great lines and moments help to outweigh the flaws.

Prometheus (2012)

Was feeling tired and moody when I watched this. Fell asleep near the beginning but stayed awake for most of it. Overall, not too bad, but I'm not sure if I care enough to want to watch again just to see what this looks like in 3D and catch the parts I missed.

Snow White & the Huntsman (2012)

Some nice ideas and visuals but ultimately a bore to sit through.

The Raid: Redemption (2011)

Not too bad. Pretty violent though...

Dark Shadows (2012)

Was ok. Didn't really like it that much though.

Ghost on Air - 靈聼 (2012)

Boring.

For what it's worth, it's at least heads and shoulders above other domestic releases in S'pore for 2012 to date in the technical aspects - not that it's fantastic in this department. Also avoids the usual pitfall of coming across like a TV movie, IMHO. More attention could have been paid to the story, and also details like locations, costumes, etc. Neat trick with the ghost mascots for the publicity.

21 Jump Street (2012)

Pretty much a guy flick. Adequately entertaining. Ice Cube rocks!

Caught the IMAX 3D version - not bad!

My Little Honey Moon - 野蓮香 (2012)

Watched this at the New Taipei City Film Festival. Not perfect, but not too bad for an indie effort either.

Interesting. Not too bad.

Finally got around to watching this on DVD. I can see why this became a huge box office success but ultimately, this isn't exactly my cup of tea.
